Laurel is the creator and operator of Glow & Gauge. The site does not claim that Laurel is a licensed electrician, professional engineer, architect, or certified lighting designer.

Why it exists
Residential lighting advice is often split between oversimplified rules and professional software that is not designed for a quick household question. Glow & Gauge occupies the middle: transparent first-pass tools that show their assumptions and teach the next check.
The aim is not to produce one supposedly perfect fixture count. It is to help a reader arrive at a better conversation with a manufacturer, lighting professional, electrician, installer, or retailer.
How the work is made
Calculator functions are written as deterministic formulas and covered by local tests. Pages expose the formula, editable inputs, a worked example, limits, and source links. Editorial dates change only after material review.
Original editorial images were created with an image-generation workflow under human art direction and checked for page fit. They communicate mood and spatial ideas; they are not photometric simulations or evidence for a technical claim.
Where the boundary sits
This site does not design wiring, circuit loads, emergency lighting, structure, fire protection, damp or wet ratings, accessibility compliance, or local code. It does not inspect a room or verify a product.
